The Prisoner-Remake

I'm not much of a fan of remakes usually. Many TV series and films are of their time and even repeats, many years on, can be disappointing. Often when we look back at things with nostalgia, be it films, TV series or places, we are actually yearning for that time in our lives and the revisiting can be a cruel let down.

The Prisoner must be one of the most iconic TV series of the last century. Sadly it proved to be all too prophetic as we now see an ever more encroaching state controlling our lives and slowly eating away at our freedoms and liberties. The traditionalist in me wants them to leave The Prisoner alone and untouched, a memoral to the late, great Patrick McGoohan who sadly died in January this year. But part of me is happy that the remake may just open the eyes of a whole new audience of millions to the genius that is The Prisoner. Who knows it may also help to wake people up to what is happening all around us with the imposition of the police state.

So for a better idea as to what the remake will be like below is a seven minute trailer. If you want to know more about the oiginal Prisoner series please visit Six of One, The Prisoner Appreciation Society.

Patronising Pinko Tossers

The Howard League for Penal Reform have reared their ugly heads again, I suppose it is the silly season.

Now I'm not a great hang 'em and flog 'em merchant, it's hard to square being against abortion with supporting the death penalty, all life is sacred, but these clowns are on another planet.

They have now gone and insulted every prison officer in the country with their smarmy sentimentalist bollocks. Things such as:

The Howard League for Penal Reform said currently staff were "turnkeys... barely skilled or literate".

That from this report on the BBC website.

It takes a certain understanding of human nature to be a prison officer, and imagine what a shambles if they were all as the Howard League advocate:

In future, said the Howard League, only graduates in subjects such as criminology, prison law or sociology should be accepted for the role.

Imagine a pinko liberal sociologist asking a prisoner to kindly refrain from setting fire to the block because society thinks one shouldn't.

Prats!

The Prisoner

I always say that all work and no play makes Gregg a dull boy, or actually Gregg and Jules a dull couple. So we're off to North Wales for some peace and walking in Snowdonia. Problem is we come back no healthier because we know the best chippy in the world, in Betws, and the best curry house outside Manchester or Altrincham which is in Llanrwst.

On Saturday we will be paying homage to Patrick McGoohan at The Prisoner Convention at Portmeirion.

Be seeing you.

Passports Cloned

No real shock with this story, no real surprise either. A computer boffin has cloned the details of an e-passport. They were introduced into our glorious police state to protect us from the terrible real world by New Labour in 2006.

It just means that the government will try even harder to find more ways to monitor, bug, film and index us.

“I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered! My life is my own.” The Prisoner
