James Delingpole on President Obama, Or Is It O'Bama?

I always have a laugh when US politicians claim Irish ancestry. Especially when you find out that their claim actually rests on once drinking a pint of Guiness in O'Flaherty's Bar in Boston. Well, Clinton was up to it and now Barack Obama is up to it.

But I can't beat this wonderful article by James Delingpole. So I won't try. You must read it, it's Pure Genius.

Let's Do The Timewarp-The Queen In Ireland

I heard an interesting piece on the radio this morning and thought it was part of the BBC's Domesday Project. Either that or that I had actually travelled back in time to the 1980s when the IRA were blowing people up and the Liberal Democrats had an ounce of credibility. But no, it was definitely being broadcast live, this very morning.

The piece was about the Queen's visit to Ireland and the participant was some kind of Irish socialist republican, he sounded extremely bitter and insular. He constantly referred to the Queen as 'Elizabeth Windsor'. He's obviously a seriously extreme revolutuionary calling her that!. When pressed he didn't want her there, or Obama when he visits soon because their governments kill innocent people in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya. As most governments in Europe are sending troops to help in those places he was pressed on which heads of state he would welcome. He couldn't name any because he was talking tosh. But the old chestnuts repeatedly popped up about the potato famine, the six counties and how British troops are occupying part of Ireland and we should go and let the Irish be united.

I have no beef with anybody in Ireland be it the Republic or Northern Ireland. My view has always been that if a majority in Northern Ireland want to remain within the United Kingdom then so be it. When a majority want to be part of the Irish Republic then good luck and goodbye. I feel the same about Scotland and have said before that if the people of Cumbria wanted to join an independent Scotland then so be it. That's democracy.

What disturbed me about this particular republican on the radio is that he represents a 'dissident' Irish republican outfit. 'Dissident' being a euphemism for 'terrorist'. He sounded just like a throwback to the dark days of the 1970s and '80s. It was quite sad to hear and a timely reminder that there are still lunatics, on both sides in Ireland, just waiting to return to the path of violence. That's why I think the Queen's visit is so important to Anglo-Irish relations. The overwhelming majority of Irish peope are decent, law abiding people just wanting to live their lives in peace and prosperity just lik the res ofus. But nobody should be complacent.

One final thought. When the little Irish dissident was spouting about the cost of security for the visit in these straightened times, and wanting the British out of Ireland, I don't remember hearing him asking us to take the billions of pounds we baled them out with when we go.  Strange that.

Ireland-Declan Ganley Talking Straight

It's just a shame there seems to be no serious politician, in the UK, Ireland or anywhere in Europe, telling it as it is. Little Georgie Osborne has certainly done neither the UK nor Ireland any favours by bunging £7,000,000,000 into the great black hole that is the so called bailout.

Trouble in Belfast

It's not been a good few days for those fond of orange, what with Holland losing the final and Orangemen getting attacked as they marched in Belfast.

The last time I was in Nothern Ireland, about six years ago, there was widespread cynicism verging on ridicule about the officially stated arms decomissioning. Real people, not idiot politicians like Blair, knew that the peace process would only last so long.

Let's face it, if you put murdering bastards like McGuiness and Adams in positions of power eventually they will grab for more power until they have complete power. In the last twenty years they have been proved absolutely right in their belief that the bomb and the bullet can get them what they want.

No wonder the pair look so smug when you see them on TV. OK the trouble at the moment is nowhere near previous levels, but let's see how long it takes.

EU Style Democracy-Irish Referendum, Again.

18 months ago the Irish voted NO to the Lisbon Treaty/European Constitution. Today they are having to vote again so that they get it right, so the EU hope. The EU only like democracy if the participants agree with it, a bit like the old style communists of Eastern Europe.

I remember hearing a few years ago how the president of Albania slightly cocked up rigging his victorious election. When all the votes were counted over 100% of the people had voted for him. Oh how we laughed at such tyranny.

Nobody's laughing now, especially in Ireland.

Ballot To Be Re-Run.

In case you've been away, and were unaware, there is to be a second poll. You may be thinking in Afghanistan, where there was widespread intimidation of voters to such an extent that in some districts nobody voted. If so you would be wrong.

It is in Ireland where there was a perfectly run referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. As ever, when a referendum goes against the wishes of the European Union bureaucrats they just hold it again until they get the desired result.

I've just had Irish Referendum drawn to my attention.

The attempt to thwart democracy, aka second referendum, will be held on October 2nd.

Afghanistan Election-EU Approves

The EU observers have noted that the election in Afghanistan was mostly OK, although in some areas there was intimidation, in some areas people were unable to vote etc., etc. However the result will stand.

It seems that the EU only demands that polls be re-run where there is absolutely no evidence of any wrongdoing whatsoever, such as Ireland.

Scouse Vasectomy

After having their 11th child, a Liverpool couple decided that was enough, as the social wouldn't buy them a bigger bed and they weren't strong, or smart enough to steal one.

The husband went to his doctor and told him that he and his wife didn't want to have any more children.

The doctor told him there was a procedure called a vasectomy that would fix the problem, but it was expensive. A less costly alternative was to go home, get a firework, light it, put it in a beer can, then hold the can up to his ear and count to 10.

The Scouser said to the doctor, 'I may not be the smartest guy in the world, but I don't see how putting a firework in a beer can next to my ear is going to help me.'

'Trust me, it will do the job', said the doctor.

So the man went home, lit a banger and put it in a beer can. He held the can up to his ear and began to count:

'1, 2, 3, 4, 5,'

at which point he paused, and placed the beer can between his legs so he could continue counting on his other hand.

This procedure also works in Yorkshire, Wales and parts of Ireland!

Ireland and The Lisbon Treaty

As Ireland prepares for its referendum a colleague has drawn my attention to this video. It was made by the WiseUpJournal.com, a site or organisation I cannot vouch for, but the video, what I have seen of it, is excellent and contains interviews with some serious and respected politicians from Europe and Ireland.
