Salford Referendum And Democracy

I'm not convinced that elected mayors add anything to local democracy, it seems to me just another busybody to mither and badger the local populace and get a good wedge of cash in the process. Having said that, Blair's attack on local democracy with the introduction of the cabinet system probably made elected mayors seem an attractive proposition to a few. And the nub is 'the few'.

It may be a problem with our first past the post electoral system, but the best way for smaller parties to win is to look at alternative routes to being elected. UKIP manage to scrape into the European Parliament through that particular form of proportional representation. Whereas in recent local by-elections, under FPTP, they have averaged 1% of the vote. Ironically for an anti-EU party they only have reasonable representation in an undemocratic sham of a parliament that they profess to oppose. I'm sure they aren't in it for the pot of cash to be had!

The only success for the English Democrats was when they managed to get their candidate elected Mayor of Doncaster, a huge shock in 2009 even for the English Democrats. So as they are unable to get elected under FPTP they are now busily campaigning for elected mayors.

Yesterday the people of Salford voted to have an elected mayor. I say 'the people of Salford', in reality only 18% of the people of Salford bothered to vote in the referendum. 17,344 voted yes while 13,653 voteed no. The city's  electorate is 171,000.  My maths is diabolical but I guess that means that around 10% of the people eligible to vote actually voted for a mayor. The whole exercise cost over £200,000. Hardly an overwhelming show of civic desire for yet another well paid politico. The referendum was called following a petition organised by the English Democrats.

There is an argument that if people don't bother to vote in elections then tough. But we do need to ask questions of a system that produces results such as this. Yes, if people don't bother to vote they can't complain. But on the other hand if a referendum campaign can only produce a turnout of 18% can it be said to have been effective in engaging with the electorate? Or is it politicos taking advantage of apathy for their own gain?

I support the principle of referenda, when called for by a percentage of the electorate in a referendum, but there has to be a limit. The 5% of signatures currently required on a petition to trigger a mayoral election is too low, it should be 10%. There should also be a threshold of at least a 51% turnout for the vote to be binding. If the politicos can't stimulate that level of interest among the electorate, then their wishes deserve to be ignored.

Sadly, if our system of democracy was more transparent and open, with elected politicians who were  responsive to the electorate rather than party whips, we wouldn't actually need the safety valve of referenda. Maybe it's time we had a serious root and branch look at our whole system after years of tinkering and fiddling by Blair/Brown and the undemocratic European Union.

Oh, and don't forget, it was the good people of Salford in 2010 who re-elected that giant of political probity Hazel Blears. If you want to see what I really think of Blears just click on this link or click on Hazel Blears in the labels list below this post. 'Frederick Oakley' be warned, it is extremely venomous and will upset you!

Hazel Blears MP

I have often attacked the verminous little turd with a carrot top known as Hazel Blears. She's a minging, unprincipled little gravy train sponger who really should be shot. However there seems to be 16,655 dickheads in Salford who are stupid enough to vote Labour and re-elect the little parasite.

Up yours Salford, never again will I spend a penny in Salford whether that be in a public lavvie or watching Salford RLFC (now known as Salford City Reds), or even visiting the Lowry. If you're stupid enough to vote for her then wallow in your own filth.

Hazel Blears-The Bitch is Back

Driving down to the Midlands this morning I thought I'd gone back in time, it was scary. Listening to the BBC the interviewer asked a question and I thought I heard Hazel Blears (left) respond. Surely not? But yes it was, gassing off as if she was a real person instead of the gobby, lying little freak she is.

Since she was exposed as a main player in the expenses scandal she has, sensibly, kept a low profile. But the bitch is back. This morning she was claiming that people on the doorsteps aren't bothered about the expenses scandal. I can just imagine a big hard Salford lad politely chatting to her then closing the door, when asked by his wife who it was he'll reply: "That cheeky little, thieving carrot topped bitch Blears. She thinks we'll actually vote for her the deluded bitch. She's gone off all smiling the cow!"

She further claimed that politicians have always been regarded as scum. Nobody has ever been regarded as lowly as this current batch you thick cow, and you're the lowest of the low.

If you're disillusioned with the three old parties then watch tonight's leaders' debate. And you'll really despair.

Voting Open for Prick of the Year 2009

Voting has now started for this blog's Prick of the Year Award, please visit the side bar. You may also like to make a donation to my Christmas charity which is The Prostate Cancer Charity. Again there is a link to the donations page on my side bar.

Most of the people on my poll are pretty obvious. However, a word about Alex. He is the kind of politically correct obsessive who cries RACIST! if you look up to the sky and say: "Oh no, that black cloud looks dodgy". You can find his rather obsessive blog, but I wouldn't recommend it, via a link on yesterday's post, it's very tedious.

Which reminds me of the politically correct pantomime: Precipitation of Indeterminate Colour and the Seven Persons of Diminutive Stature

Fascist Britain!

I have the terribly British habit of having a full English cooked breakfast on a Sunday morning while reading the Sunday papers. Now if that sentence offends you, or you think the mention of breakfast, including bacon, might offend muslims then tough shit!

Mrs B and I nearly choked on our Lincolnshire sausage this morning when we read:

Home Office Tells Staff Not To Eat Near Muslims

Just after almost choking on our black pudding reading:

Christians Are Offensive-Prosecute Them

So now causing offence is prosecutable. In that case I'm off to see a solicitor about Gordon Brown, Lady Mandy of Mandelson, Tony Blair, Hazel Blears, Michael "Fat Pig" Moore, Miliband (x2), Margaret Beckett..............

But before you go off on one, assuming us to be Islamophobes, then read the following:

But the guide is now at the centre of a row with Islamic groups who said it was more likely to incite hatred of Muslims than promote understanding.

I do believe in "when in Rome", but suspect that these are two further examples of white, pinko-liberal bollocks rather than real muslims actually taking offence.

If they are muslims then I suggest they piss off to a muslim country and that we all fight to restore freedom of speech in this country, which includes the right to be offensive, and to be offended. But the white pinko-liberals should also clear off to live elsewhere rather than turning the UK into a fascist state.

To put it another way, bloody well grow up!

Martin Bell

Martin Bell, the posing prat in a white suit, has shown his true colours:

Martin Bell, the former MP and BBC war correspondent, has confirmed he will not stand against Hazel Blears in her Salford constituency.

Mr Bell, who deposed Neil Hamilton in Knutsford in 1997, said it would not be easy to beat the ex-cabinet minister.

He made his announcement at a meeting of about 50 people who want Ms Blears replaced by an independent candidate.

I would say that Blears has done a lot worse than Hamilton, but Bell's mates in the media obviously haven't done as good a hatchet job on that little bitch. It seems the knight in a white suit legs it from a real fight.

I always thought he was a sanctimonious hypocritical turd, making him the ideal man to replace Blears I suppose.

Hazel Blears-Nice One Salford!

I'm a Mancunian but have always had a real soft spot for Salford, and it's just gone right up in my estimation. Hazel Blears, aka 'The Runt', has had her car vandalised. Brilliant!

She whines about it being 'mindless anti-social behaviour'. So, what do you call bombing the shit out of Iraq and Afghanistan? What do you call fiddling your expenses you ugly little runt?

If there are problems with 'anti-social behaviour' it's thanks to the pinko liberal political consensus and it's poisonous social policies.

Shut it Blears and take your medicine.

Salford Labour Party

Congratulations to Salford Constituency Labour Party. Last night they confirmed that Hazel 'The Runt' Blears will continue as their MP and candidate at the next general election and, unless the people of Salford are as stupid as members of the CLP, which I doubt, this means that Labour will lose the seat of Salford and Eccles at the next election.

Perhaps the members of Salford Labour Party who voted for The Runt are all plants from another party, who knows? My only worry is that Mr Smug himself, Martin Bell, might hit Salford on his white charger. Well, in his white suit.

Hazel Blears MP

The Runt faces a motion of no confidence tonight at a meeting of her Constituency Labour Party.

But, according to the Manchester Evening News , she looks likely to survive.

Are Labour members in Salford really so bloody stupid? Quite probably actually, we'll find out later tonight.

The Snivelling Little Runt For Salford

Hazel Blears is now backtracking and grovelling to try and save her piggy little bacon:

AN APOLOGETIC Hazel Blears has revealed three major regrets - including her 'cruel' YouTube joke against Gordon Brown.

The Salford MP wished she had not worn a brooch saying 'rocking the boat' the day after her shock decision to quit the Cabinet looked set to end the prime minister's reign.

And she bitterly regretted the timing of her resignation, on the eve of European elections, that saw Labour's vote dip under 16 per cent for the first time in nearly 100 years.

Here is the full article from the MEN Online.

I wonder if it's got anything to do with the Labour Party in Salford organising a motion of no confidence in her?

Hazel Blears

Rejoice, rejoice. The runt has left the litter.

Hazel Blears resigns.

I love Salford, in fact I very occasionally, even now, get to watch Salford RLFC. Sorry but I can't bring myself to call them Salford City Reds, shit, I just have. But for God's sake people of Salford, it will take a long time for us to forgive you for putting that little bitch onto the national political scene.

Oh what fun we had! Bring on that general electon.

Michael Moore-Prat!

It's been ages since I gratuitously abused Michael Moore so here goes.

Fat, pompous, prat. He should chew on a phial of cyanide. He's a right patronising, self-righteous git and a complete arsehole to boot.

That's better, going some way to coping with the concert being cancelled tomorrow now.

By the way the little rodent on the right is Hazel Blears. Don't start me on that little bitch!

And Another One Bites The Dust

Piggy Boy Morley bites on the political phial. I love the word 'phial'. Perhaps the more scientific reader may wish to confirm whether or not it is ever used in a context other than cyanide and suicide. Looks like a piggy doesn't he?

Bill's Cashing in too. Geddit?

Former environment minister Elliot Morley is expected to become the 13th MP to step down in the wake of expenses revelations.

Mr Morley, who claimed £16,000 over 18 months for a mortgage that did not exist, has already been suspended by the Labour Party.

Scotland Yard is also considering whether to launch a criminal probe.

The Scunthorpe MP said he is arranging a meeting with his local party association, but refused to confirm he will inform activists he is standing aside at the next general election.

"I will release a statement after I have spoken to them," he added.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that senior Tory MP Bill Cash claimed more than £15,000 of public money to pay the rent on his daughter's London flat.

The MP designated a west London flat owned by his daughter Laetitia as his "second home" for Commons allowances during 2004 and 2005 - even though he owned a home closer to Westminster.

Mr Cash, whose main home is a country house in Shropshire, said he did not live at his own Pimlico flat or rent it out at the time.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Miss Cash, who is hoping to become a Conservative MP, sold her flat for a £48,000 profit soon after her father stopped claiming money for it. She had owned her home for less than a year and a half, and for more than 12 months of that period her father had paid her £1,200 a month in rent from public funds.

Mr Cash, MP for Stone and a prominent Eurosceptic, then reportedly nominated two private members' clubs as his "second home" for three months.

Come on Blears you little runt, fill that phial! That's just me being gratuitous.

Another One Bites The Dust

Well two actually. Magic!

Julie Kirkbride and the old slapper in Luton South, Margaret 'Moron', are standing down at the next election.

Thank God the slapper in Luton is on her bike, it saves us the agony of the excrutiating Esther Rantzen flouncing around on the stump, which she'd promised to do if 'Moron' didn't stand down.

Read all about it.

Come on Hazel 'Snout in Trough' Blears make it a hat-trick please.

Voting Idiots

Don't assume that the great British public will do the right thing come a general election. In a council by-election in Salford, in Hazel Blears' constituency, Labour has just been re-elected.

It really is quite frightening.

August General Election?

It seems, according to the Times Online, that government Chief Whip Nick Brown let slip on Twitter that there will be a general election in August. The entry has now gone but The Times confirms that it did indeed appear then was removed.

Which goes to show that politicians should have their own version called, perhaps, Twatter!

Meanwhile if you follow this link you will see Hazel 'Snout in Trough' Blears, with her permanently plastered on patronising, smug, arrogant, false and puke inducing grin, claiming that all is well and that Gordon Brown actually loves her.

No Blears you lying little runt, I saw the press conference when Brown replied to a question about your expenses calling them "totally unacceptable". On yer bike you little misfit!

He's Knackered

Poor old Gordon Brown, now Jacqui Smith says she supports him. Now that truly is the kiss of death, she can't get anything right so, if genuine, he is doomed.

More than likely she will be helping the backstabbers such as Harman and Blears to oust him. Then God help us if that coven gets their hands on the levers of power.

But who the hell in his entourage didn't warn him about the background to the photograph above?!

Harman Begins Leadership Bid

'I don't want to be PM'
Says Harman.

Poor old Gordon must be feeling like the football manager who has just received the backing of the board.

But what role will there be for weasel-like runt of the litter Hazel Blears post-Gordon Brown? Hazel 'the weasel' Blears attacked senior figures in the Labour Party for failing to communicate properly. Then realising that she had communicated rather too honestly for a Labour politician she backtracked, claiming it wasn't a criticism of the leadership.

God help us if we end up with these two trying to run the country. And you thought things couldn't get any worse!!
